Technology alone does not make good films. If that was the case then a country like Japan today would have been a leading country in film making. What we really require is to atleast have the basic equipment which other nations have for film making and take it for granted.

This is one of the 4-5 movies I am waiting anxiously for. Pervez Malik hasn't directed the film but his son Imran has. Our film industry desperatly misses directors like Pervez Malik. The film's music has been recorded in India and yet again Indian play back singers have been used. Most of the songs have been shot in Dubai.I have also have seen the promo on Prime TV.

Its nice to see Ehsan Khan back in films. Currently every filmmaker wants to release his film on Eid and its becoming a joke. Already we have Pehla pehla pyar, Majajan, Washi hasina, 786(now called Hum aik ai),ajab gil's film and some other punjabi films.

I do agree on Eid people have 3-4 holidays but how many films can you actually watch. What happens that one or two films get all the business and rest just flop even some very good films in the past have flopped becuase of competition.

Why cant our film makers learn anyting from the producers of Salakhain and release their film seperataly. The bottom line is if the is good people will come and see it. Eid or no Eid.

The news regarding Zara Sheikh's wedding to Makkal has been confirmed by Zara also and the wedding will take place in December.

Nagmana Jafferi who first shot to fame by singing for Shaan's film Moosa khan has been approached by Indian music directors Jatin-Lalit to sing with Udit Narayan for a forthcoming film. Jatin-Lalit heard the voice of Nagmana when Shehzad Rafiq went to India for the post production of "Salakhain" and they liked what they heard. Nagmana is currently thinking over the offer.

Shaby like most things in our country its was probably another announcement. We have this habit of planning things, doing research, having seminars but actually nothing ever gets done. Its the story of our country.

I also do not care for one moment that Asma Lata or anyone leaves Pakistan but why critizize their own country. Any how its not new because if two former prime ministers, Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif can sit in the luxury of Dubai and sl*g Pakistan off then who are these lesser imortals.

Charizmatic, you were pretty impressed with the performance of Ahmed Butt but what is your opinion of the other hero Sami khan. He is also appearing in Altaf Hussain's film "Rabba ishq na howay" which was supposed to have been released last week. Have you seen it, without doubt you can't compare it Salakhain but was just wondering.

Have the likes of Shamyl Khan, Ahmad Butt, Sami Khan and other new heroes have any chance to compete with Shaan or Momi.

Probably this eid and I also have heard that Zee TV have the television rights for the film. Its amazing but over the last number of years Zee has always been the first channel to show the latest Pakistani films. Chalo Ishq Larain and Yeh Dil Aap Ka Huwa being the latest examples and the picture quality is excellent. What the hell are the Pakistani channels doing.

There is the demand factor but their is something else because until the mid 1990s you could get a pirated copy of every Pakistani film on video within one week after its Cinema release.

Then the copyright Act was introduced in Pakistan and anyone found pirating Pakistani film/audio/cds is
heavily fined and possible 2 year jail sentence. Indian and English films do not came under the Copyright Act.

After this most video dealers gived up pirating Pakistani films. In the last few years the only Pakistani pirated films that I have seen are Jeeva, Choorian, Inteha and Guns and Roses.

One thing the producers can do is to release the films on DVD/video within 3-6 month period. Unfortunately majority of the film producers are not interested in getting the films released because they get paid peanuts. Imagine you make a film for 4-5 crore rupees and you get 4-5 lakhs rupees for video/dvd rights.

YDAKH audio rights got sold for 10 lakhs rupees which was a record in Pakistan at that time and the film was made for 5 crore. In India Devdas made for 50 crore and the audio rights got sold 12 crore rupees. This is why even 98% of Bollywood films flop but they still survive due to the audio/video/ dvd/satellite rights.

In turn these things are unheard in Pakistan because the greedy audio/video companies don't want to fork out any money because 80% of the audio/video/dvd market is dominated by Indian stuff for which these companies don't pay a single rupee and make millions so they don't bother with Pakistani stuff.

These companies fear that if they pay big amounts in royalties and rights what then normally happens the stuff gets pirated. I have witnessed these, a orginal Pakistani film/Drama is DVD is 220-250 rupees and pirated copy is 90 rupees.

In the long run piracy is not just hurting the film industry but also hurting our pop music industry. These is why companies like EMI and Shalimar Recording Company have all closed down in Pakistan.

Instep never ever write anything positive about Pakistani films or about Pakistani Showbiz so I am not surprised at all.

Sometimes I feel are they really a Pakistani newspaper and what is there objective. This is another reason why people are put of by Pakistani films because of blatent criticism.

What these people do not realise is in what trying circumstances Pakistani films are made.

Just one song and 2 scenes, maximum you could say its a 15 min role but what gets me angry why is momi's name not on any of the publicity material. Above all momi wants the film to be released in Pakistan.

September but one thing is surprising that momi's name is not found anywhere on the publicity material of Dobara. Why accept this sort of film. Its a total insult and most people are already getting angry with momi's 5 min appearance.

It still looks like that Shamim Ara has not learnt anythind from her failures in the last few years and still insists on making films on the "Munda Bigra Jaye" style, which some how became a massive hit. The public is simply not doing to accept this sort of rubbish any more. It was proved with KBGK and her earlier films.

Please Shamim Ara wake up because you did make some decent films in the late 70s with Playboy or in the 80s with Babra Sharif the Miss series and even in the 90s with "Akhri Mujra".

The full main cast of Bhudda Bigra Jaye is John Rambo, Hassan Murad, Aalina(came in Pehla Sijda), Naila Raza, Umar Khan, and Naveed Shiekh.

Currently the film's dubbing is going on and it going to be released in September.

Well, according to the Urdu Daily "Khabrain", Salakain has done a record business of 1 crore rupees in the first week. The budget of Salakian was 4 crore rupees. If this trend carries on then with in the first month the film should recover its investment.

The film is running to packed houses every where especially in Lahore where Salakain is been shown at three main Cinemas. At the Plaza Cinema, Empire, and Gulistan.

Next the film is going to released in the UK soon. I expect a Eid release in the UK.

The film has been shot in England. It has John Rambo (Afzal Khan), Naila Raza and generally its a new cast. Don't expect too much from the film especially going by Shamim Ara's recent record.

Totally agree with Ali Zafar but when are we ever going to change our mentally. We love everything of others but we see ourselves as second class citizens. When the hell are we going to get out of are inferior complex.

Its just not our film makers but some of our TV directors are going across the border to record music and some of our pop artists are doing the same.

Its a total shame. One thing which is very funny is that no Indian artist can work in a Pakistani film offically but Indian singers are singing for Pakistani films.

Looks like are censor board is probably deaf.

Very pleased that you enjoyed the movie. The only reservation I had was of the subject matter which was not new but what matters is presentation.

What was the public response do you think that the film will be a big hit.

Another pre-release review on Salakain. What really matters is what the public thinks about the film on the 13th. This is why I am more interested in what Charizmatic and Standard have to say about the film after seeing it.

Salakhain premiered amidst great hype

"When I go back to Mumbai, I want to tell the people that I watched a very nice movie in Pakistan." These views were expressed by renowned Bollywood actor-turned-politician, Raj Babbar, talking to media men at the premiere of Salakhain, late Saturday night.

Scores of people attended the premiere show, led by the star cast of the film that included leading lady Zara Sheikh, hero Ahmed Butt, producers Khalil Rana and Rashid Khawaja, and last but not the least, director Shehzad Rafique. The common feeling was that Salakhain is a praiseworthy attempt at a time when Lollywood is experiencing the worst downfall ever.

Syed Noor, Umer Sharif, Mubasher Luqman, Ayub Khawar, Noor-ul-Hassan, Naghmana Jaffery, and others were also present on the occasion.

The theme of the film, though not quite new to cine-goers, has been dealt with in a technically superior way. Salakhain is about an innocent youth from the interior city, who falls into the hands of a bunch of politicians who in turn throw his life topsy-turvy for their own gains.

The film starts with Faizan (played by newcomer Ahmad Butt) behind bars, having a row with a fellow prisoner. Later he becomes friends with the leader of the gang, Zaigum (Saud) who incites him to take up arms for the sake of his survival in the society where anarchy prevails.

The writer, using flashback, takes a leap back into the innocent past of Faizan who is shown a resident of Gawal Mandi, with his love interest, Savera (played by Zara Sheikh). Faizan, an emotional youth, appears in his BA exams. He highly begrudges the corruption inside the examination hall, and lands himself in jail for raising a voice against it. Ultimately, his entire career is destroyed. The police, in connivance with the superintendent, who is backed by Jibran (Sajid Hassan), a leader of the opposite gang, registers a case against him.

Notwithstanding the breaking of his dreams, Faizan's father, Qari Sahab (Farooq Zamir) has a heart attack and expires. Faizan's mother (Deeba Begum) cannot take the shock and loses her mind. Faizan is released by Shafi Mohammad who backs Saud's gang. Faizan kills the superintendent and becomes a member of Zaigum's gang.

The conflict between Zaigum and Jibran is reminiscent of a similar conflict between Vivek Oberoi and Ajay Devgan in last year's Bollywood film, Company.

But, that is not all about Salakhain. The film takes you in by virtue of its picturesque locations, its fresh casting, and definitely a couple of songs that were choreographed by Bollywood's Pooni Verma. With the result that the film works, despite a rather weak plot and the inclusion of too many sub-plots.

A word about the lead cast of the film. Ahmed Butt, though a well-built, young guy, was weak on expressions as well as fighting scenes. Despite the tall claims made by the director throughout the making of the film, the music of Salakhain is least inspiring. Three songs of the film were recorded in India, in the voices of Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik, but that doesn't much help matters.

Zara Sheikh could be charged of overacting, on various occasions. On the other hand, another newcomer, Sami did well.

Meera is likely to go down well with her two bold numbers that however, justify her character. Otherwise, she looked aged and tired.

Many theatre artists including Tariq Teddi, Tariq Javed and Amanat Chan carried off the comedy track in true theatrical style. Faisal Quraishi did a good job of dubbing the voice of Ahmad.

Ahmad said that he was happy with his performance and that the response he had received from the public was extraordinary.

He also said that he did not have enough words to express his feelings. Anxious to catch his own Mehndi the same night, Ahmad left for home soon after the movie ended.

In the final analysis, Salakhain leaves an impact, on the strength of its technical virtues, but leaves something to be desired in the departments of story and screenplay.
